Sutton Valence Choral Society

              CHAIRMAN                     Jeremy Cross

Jeremy is a keen amateur musician who has enjoyed singing in church choirs, chamber groups and large choruses since childhood. His singing career peaked at the age of 13 in the Royal Festival Hall with a performance of Mahler's 3rd Symphony under Sir John Barbirolli. Since then, his musical decline has been reversed by the vocal excellence of the choir, the warm fellowship of its members and the boundless optimism of the conductor. To paraphrase Cicero, Dum canto, spero.

CONDUCTOR                       Bryan Gipps

Bryan was appointed conductor of Sutton Valence Choral Society at the beginning of 2003 so this is his fifth year with us. He has had extensive experience as conductor of choirs and orchestras in many parts of the country including most of the major cathedrals. He has been a public school director of music for many years and is a very accomplished violinist, organist and singer. He conducts Maidstone Youth Orchestra and Cranbrook Operatic Society and is co-director of the Beresford Sinfonia.

SECRETARY                         Barbara Piper

Barbara Piper is an Art teacher, recently retired from Sutton Valence School who now concentrates on her own art work as well as singing.

Her main interests are print making, photography and film making. Her present desire is to make art films to which her composer son will supply the music.

Young musicians are often invited to join our performances. Thus choristers from All Saints’ Church, Maidstone and Maidstone Girls’ Grammar School, as well as members of Kent Youth and Maidstone Youth Orchestras, have performed with us recently. We value the professionalism of the Beresford Sinfonia, our regular accompanying orchestra, as well as our sponsors, friends and supporters.
